今日は、時事用語として「G7」について書きます。G7の参加国は、日本、米国、英国、ドイツ、フランス、イタリア、カナダの7か国です。ご存知の通り、各国のトップが参加して毎年開く国際会議を「サミット(頂上)」と呼ばれています。第一回会議は、第1次石油危機により世界経済が混乱していた1975年に開催されました。当初は、6か国開催だったが、第2回からカナダが加わり、「G7」(Group of seven)と呼ばれるようになりました。東西冷戦の終結後、1994年よりロシアが本格的に議論に加わり、98年には「G8」の呼称が定着しました。しかし、ロシアが2014年にウクライナクリミア半島を自国に編入したことで 他の参加国が反発して 当面の間、ロシアを外すことになりました。

世界経済を牽引する役割を期待されているG7は、ここ10年で存在感が薄れてきている。もともと、G7の名目国内総生産(GDP)の合計は、80年代に世界の70%近くを占めていた。その後、G7の比重は、徐々に2008年のリーマン・ショックを経て、いまは50%を切っている。人口シェアも1割程度にとどまります。やはり、中国やロシアなど新興国が存在感を高めているので  今後のG7運営が問われます。要は、米国、欧州、日本で 協調することが必要になります。
